Sunday morning talking heads

April 1, 2018 By Takingonissues

A surprisingly slow news week means a thin guest list for the Sunday shows. In the spotlight: Now-former VA chief David Shulkin, who’ll be on to complain about his firing despite having stuck Trump with one bad headline after another over the past few months. He’ll be on “Meet the Press” and “State of the Union” to specify how many minutes’ notice he had of his pink slip before POTUS beamed out news of it to the world. He’ll also be pressed to say whether he thinks his replacement, Dr. Ronny Jackson, is a good fit for this job. Since Shulkin’s all about punishing the White House right now, the very likely answer is “no.”

Elsewhere, Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy will sit down with “Face the Nation” to discuss their new book, “Unified: How Our Unlikely Friendship Gives Us Hope for a Divided Country.” In these bitterly divided times, can two very conservative Republicans from South Carolina find common ground? Gowdy will also be pressed, per the usual, on Russiagate and Trump’s recent jabs at Bob Mueller. Thanks to his looming retirement, he’s become one of Mueller’s few reliable defenders on the right and the Sunday show hosts know it.

If none of that grabs you, Lindsey Graham will be on “Fox News Sunday” to beg incoming NSA John Bolton to declare war on everyone. The full line-up is at the AP.

    October 1, 2018

Looks like California’s lack of civics education extends to its lawmakers — including Governor Jerry Brown. Yesterday, Brown signed a bill that imposes net-neutrality restrictions on Internet providers, but oddly declined comment on his Sunday action: California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law on Sunday a bill to restore net neutrality protections that President Donald […]
