The US Constitution has not been read on the floor of Congress for over 223 years. The mere fact that the new Congress read the US Constitution on January 6th, 2011 shows that we have elected true leaders to the new Congress. This reading also shows that our new Republican Congressional leaders have drawn a line in the sand separating themselves from the old Congress. Using the US Constitution as a point of demarcation is so profound.
The Importance of The US Constitution
It Protects Your Individual Freedom
On January 6th, 2011 when the members of Congress, who we elected last November, were sworn in, they read the most important document you will ever know.
That document, the US Constitution, is what gives you a tremendous amount of individual freedom that other citizens of other countries do not enjoy. The US Constitution gives you freedom of speech, the freedom to live where you chose and religious freedom, to name a few obvious freedoms currently enjoyed by every single American.
It’s Not Just Symbolism
By their action of reading the Constitution on the floor of Congress; the new Congress understands that the US Constitution is not just a symbol. The constitution is not just a document that our Founding Fathers put together for austerity; it’s not just some crusty old document put behind glass to be viewed.
It’s Not A Living Document
The Constitution is not a living document. A living document would mean that it can be changed to fit the whims of whomever is in office. That would make it a very weak document. However, that is how the Democrats see the Constitution…as a set of rules that they can change to fit their needs.
Our Founding Fathers did not toil over the US Constitution so that future American leaders could change it. Only a group of self-centered, self-serving leaders would have the audacity to change our Constitution; and we fired them last November.
God Has Blessed America
God has truly been watching over America and we hope that He continues to. The fact that America had Founding Fathers who had the foresight to write the Constitution is in and of itself a blessing. It’s also a blessing that the American people had the smarts to fire a Congress who thought that the Constitution is frivolous. Pray to God that our new Congress will also be a blessing. Pray to God that our new Congress knows their place and their role.
