The Obamacare Individual Mandate Is Mandatory
How Does Obamacare Work?
If Americans haven’t figured out by now what the individual mandate means or how the Obamacare fines will work, they sure will come January 2014 when Obamacare goes into full effect. Ignorance of health law or difficulty understanding mandatory cannot be used as an excuse for noncompliance of the Affordable Care Act. Come January 2014, if you do not have health insurance through your employer, a government-sponsored plan, the individual market, Obamacare or a state exchange you will pay the Obamacare penalty, period. Any employers who do not offer health insurance to employees who work 30 hours or more a week will also pay the Obamacare penalty.
Obamacare Fines Spelled Out
For employers who do not offer health insurance the Obamacare fines will be $2000 per worker per year. Employers have 2 options and neither one plays out well for Americans. Employers can pay the fine and then pass those costs onto consumers or reduce employee hours to get below the 30 hour threshold.
For individuals who do not have health insurance, the Obamacare fines start out small in 2014 then gradually increase over time (what else would you expect from a government-run program). For 2014, the fine is $95 per uninsured American. For 2015, the fine increases to $325. For 2016, $695 per uninsured American.
Uninsured? Cannot afford the Obamacare penalty? Don’t worry about it, the IRS has got your back…they will simply be deducting these fines from your tax refund checks.
Excluded From The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)
The individual mandate is a provision of the Affordable Care Act which is a federal law. If you do not like Obamacare or the dependency upon government it forces on us that’s too bad, it’s the law. No one can be excluded from the Obamacare law. However, some individuals may qualify for one of the Obamacare exemptions that members of Congress and Mr. Obama have bestowed upon us out of the goodness of their heart.
Who Is Exempt From Obamacare?
If you fall into anyone of the following categories you can be exempt from the Obamacare fines. Who knows may you too can qualify for an exemption; everyone else seems to be.
- illegal aliens
- members of Congress and their staff
- members of Indian tribes
- low-income individuals
- religious opposition to certain Obamacare provisions
- experienced domestic violence, death of a close family member or are caring for a disabled or aging family member
- experienced a recent flood or home fire
The list goes on and on, but you get the idea, millions of Americans will qualify for Obamacare exemptions leaving a minority of Americans carrying the load.
Do Your Part, Don’t Blow It
We are in this mess because of the Democrats in Congress who passed Obamacare into law in the first place (never forget that not one, single Republican member of Congress voted for Obamacare). If you are fed up with the position the Democrats have put us in you have one more chance to push back, don’t blow it. This November’s mid-term elections is our last chance to fire Obamacare proponents and elect individuals who understand that Obamacare is a bad law. We need a Congress willing to fight for us not wimp out under political pressures. We need to elect individuals who will repeal or at least defund Obamacare. We need to do the right thing, replace the self-obsessed, self-absorbed, selfish members of Congress with politicians who know they are elected to carry out the will of the people not their own.
