3 supplements that pull double duty for your joints and your heart

September 3, 2019 By Takingonissues

Every day, an estimated 30 million people worldwide take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, or NSAID.

These versatile medications, available in over-the-counter and prescription strength, treat both pain and inflammation.

Unfortunately, taking NSAIDs — even ones that you don’t need a prescription for, like ibuprofen or aspirin — can boost your blood pressure and impair the ability of your blood vessels to relax and stimulate the growth of smooth muscle cells inside arteries — three things that add up to bad arteries and an increased risk of heart attack.

There are three natural supplements that can control pain while also promoting a healthier heart.

#1 — Fish oil

Studies have shown that the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are just as effective as ibuprofen at eliminating joint pain. In fact, it’s even been proven to work on the severe pain of rheumatoid arthritis at reducing both joint pain and tenderness.

Not bad for a supplement that promotes healthy blood pressure by reducing the amount of fats found in your bloodstream.

I recommend taking between 1 and 3 grams of a high quality, omega-3 oil each day. My favorite is Peak Krill Oil™.

#2 — CoQ10

CoQ10 is one of the most powerful antioxidants you can take. A study by Korean researchers found that it’s helpful in inhibiting the inflammation behind the pain and cartilage degeneration that leads to osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis as you age).

What can it do for your heart health? In an analysis of 12 clinical studies, CoQ10 was reported to lower systolic blood pressure by up to 17 mm Hg and diastolic pressure by 10 mm Hg. Not too shabby!

But don’t just run out and buy any CoQ10 supplement on the shelf. Not all forms of the antioxidant are easily absorbed by your body.

You want to look for a completely soluble, liquid crystal-free ubiquinol CoQ10 clinically proven to provide superior bioavailability. For this reason, I choose Peak CoQSol10 CF™.

#3 — Resveratrol and other polyphenols

The final piece in the puzzle involves using additional antioxidants (resveratrol and other polyphenols) to relieve your joint pain.

You may have heard of resveratrol before — it’s the compound in grape skin that makes grapes so heart-healthy, but polyphenols may be a new term. Those are what give fruits and veggies their vibrant color and what puts the “super” in superfruits.

Polyphenols pack a huge antioxidant punch that could help to relieve your joint inflammation and pain and boost your heart health since antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which have been linked to both chronic pain and heart disease.

I use Peak ResV+ Superfruits™ since it delivers not only the resveratrol you need, but also superfruits like mangosteen, goji berry, acai fruit and pomegranate that are packed with those antioxidant polyphenols.

Allopathic medicine would like you to take it as gospel that daily aspirin therapy lowers your risk of heart attack.
